9 Launch Games That Singlehandedly Made Their Consoles Worth Buying

7. Super Mario World - SNES

Halo Combat Evolved
Nintendo

Where does one even start in expressing the importance of Super Mario World with the written word? Is it by gushing over the fact that every single SNES unit sold came packed with the console's finest game, that it introduced the globally-recognised, Koopa-eating dinosaur Yoshi, or that it took the formula established with Mario's NES beginnings and made it better in every way imaginable?

Non-linear progression, craftily-hidden, optional areas and secrets aplenty are but a small sampling of what made Super Mario World the ultimate platformer up to that point in time, and not until Super Mario 64 came along to supercede it six years later did the genre receive an upgrade on a grander scale.

If you have the means, go out and grab a SNES Mini right now. As true now as it was then, the inclusion of Super Mario World is worthy of the asking price alone.
