8. Adam Baldwin - Kickstarted The #GamerGate Scandal
The whole #GamerGate movement is a very strange one, especially to those looking in from the outside. Starting as a comment on the journalistic integrity of a writer who was literally in bed with a games developer, more sickeningly-minded individuals used the fact that the latter was female as a jumping-off point to chastise everything from feminist movements to anything relating to equality in games across the board. Now that's just a summary, there's plenty more coverage available right here and here, but it's important to note that as this whole social media-focussed movement was beginning to emerge, it was Adam Baldwin's above tweet that included the hashtag and caused it to go viral. Gamergate is currently still ongoing, especially with Tim Schafer stirring the pot at GDC 2015, bringing out a sock-puppet to poke fun at how reactionary and band wagon-hopping it can all feel at times. Regardless, though there are some worthwhile debates to be had about the way the games press cover their games and the relationships therein, it's just all far too hot right now for anything worthwhile to be deciphered.
