Alongside Goldeneye it's usually Halo that gets a mention as bringing first-person shooters to consoles and 'making them work', as previously the idea of controlling an aiming reticule with anything other than a mouse and keyboard was sacrilege. However with that bulky original Xbox controller, we took to the beaches and ancient structures of the world with a newfound purpose - blasting and punching everything in sight. That being said though, the core Halo formula has barely changed in 13 years; evidenced perfectly by the fact that The Master Chief Collection that's coming out later this year has a defined selling point as being "exactly the same as it was ten years ago." Albeit with a shinier graphics engine of course. Add in the fact that not one of us actually really understands the story or could tell you what's going on this late into the series, and past the initial feeling of being sucked in by impressive graphics and fancy soundtracks, Halo is in desperate need of an overhaul.
