Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare left a strong impression on fans when it was first revealed, albeit a distinctly negative one. Moving towards a more futuristic setting, COD’s fanbase was split back in 2016, but its story held an interesting premise.

Playing as Commander Nick Reyes within the Special Combat Air Recon (SCAR) team, based within spaceship Retribution, it showed an Earth stripped of its natural resources, seeing humanity create new colonies across the Solar System.

Mining further planets, this draws interest from militant groups, leading to a struggle emerging between Earth’s United Nations Space Alliance (UNSA) and Martian separatist group, the Settlement Defense Force (SDF), led by Admiral Salen Kotch.

Escalating into war, Commander Reyes kills Kotch and devises a plan to destroy SDF’s orbital shipyard, crippling their fleet but crashing onto Mars’ surface in doing so. Rallying together the Retribution’s remaining crew, the team realises one thing: they aren’t going back to Earth alive.

This mission then turns into a last stand, seeing Retribution’s survivors mostly killed one by one, but in this moment, Reyes orders surviving crew members into an SDF Destroyer, himself heading to SDF’s control centre to untether it. As this is completed, Reyes orders a reluctant Lt. Salter to open fire on the centre, killing him in the process.

It’s a pivotal moment, turning the war in UNSA’s favour and Reyes’ sacrifice doesn’t get forgotten.
