9 Mind-Bending Levels That Will Melt Your Brain
6. Thief: The Dark Project - The Sword
Casting players in the role of a thief whose bread and butter is crawling around complex, intricate locations means a keen head for direction is a must. But even the best of navigators would have trouble with The Sword.
Master thief Garret is tasked with infiltrating the private mansion of eccentric nobleman Constantine in order to steal a magical sword. Sounds straight forward, but this is a place labelled by Garret himself as a ‘maze’ and ‘a madhouse.’ If a master thief is apprehensive you better believe there’s good reason.
There is. Constantine’s mansion starts off sane, but the higher you climb the more unhinged it becomes. You’ll encounter rooms laid on their sides, an Escher-esque spiral room, and a room which seems to open into outer space. Weirdest of all is Constantine’s private retreat, a room where furniture and room both are proportioned for a giant, reducing Garret to the size of a coin.
Most bizarrely, none of this is magic: the mansion was mansion built, as directed, by Constantine, a Constantine who turns out to be a god-like being called the Trickster, and who built the mansion as a test of Garret’s skill.
No wonder it’s mind-bending.
