9 Mind-Bending Levels That Will Melt Your Brain

7. Titanfall 2 - Effect And Cause

Titanfall 2 may not share the weird geometries of the other entries on this list but with Effect and Cause it boasts a mechanic just as outlandish, and just as mind-bending, that justifies its inclusion – the ability to travel seamlessly between past and present.

Players arrive at a destroyed research facility tasked with locating a missing superior officer. While exploring the ruins you experience strange visions of the facility as it was in the past, still intact and with the staff going about their business.

But these are not visions at all – you are literally travelling into the past. When facility security respond to the intruder – you – the level transforms into a game of temporal chess, with players having to juggle two boards, and all the enemies on the them, simultaneously.

On its own that is mind-bending enough, but time travel has a bad habit of creating a paradox, and with the experiment that lead to creation of the time distortions being fast-tracked by the player’s arrival in the past, the question must be asked: would the disaster have happened if the player had not travelled to the past?

Now there’s something to give you a headache. Effect and cause indeed.
