Just look at him, the awful orange rat bastard. Everything about Daxter's design screams 'marketing consultancy firm', the expression finely tuned to maximum 'xtreme!' like a Brendan Fraser-voiced Dreamworks dinosaur. Only thing missing is a backwards cap.

Except Jak & Daxter came out in 2001, about a decade after the 'rad' sidekick stopped being cool. If it ever was. Does the weasel-otter hyrbid - or wotter, which sounds like a Jonathan Ross insult in a Beano comic - serve any particular purpose?

Nope. He's there for fast-talking exposition and supposed comic relief. Usually immediately after you perish. It's about as funny as a bout of malaria.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
