As far as video game stories go, the Crysis trilogy isn't exactly rubbing shoulders with the likes of Uncharted or Bioshock.

The franchise as a whole has plenty of plot holes and inconsistencies, but the most head-scratching moment comes in the second game, when the military decides to drop a nuke on New York City in an attempt to stop an alien invasion happening.

It's a solution that's in line with Crysis' '80s action movie inspirations, but it only works on the assumption that the military has forgotten everything it learned over the course of the first game. The original Crysis also saw a nuclear bomb being used to eradicate the alien threat, only back then it was revealed that the energy from the explosion actually made the enemies stronger, rather than doing them any harm.

Why the military would try the same thing again in the second game then, is anyone's guess.
