9 Most Disgusting Things Video Games Forced You To Do

2. Taking Part In A Terrorist Attack - Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Possibly the most infamous and controversial scene in gaming history next to GTA III's 'acquisition' of prostitutes back in 2001, COD's attempt to delve into the minds of a terrorist by illustrating the helplessness of those on the receiving end of gunfire didn't really have a message behind it, other than "Hey, this stuff is really messed up, right?"

Infinity Ward did include the option to skip the level before it starts, but I'm including it here anyway as if you wanted to play the entirety of the game you'd paid for, that should always mean seeing everything on the disc. And honestly, like Rockstar's "well just turn it off if you don't like it" approach to controversy in GTA V, No Russian simply reinforced the notion that if you're going to bother including something like this at all, you need to do it well. Instead, you wander through this airport level, taking in the massacre of what was on screen, and deciding whether or not you wanted to take part by offing some civilians yourself.

There's no morality system or repercussion for doing so, the story plays out the same and so do the animations around you, ultimately meaning that you were denying yourself content if you so chose, or opting to watch a terrorist attack unfold if you didn't. Like GTA V's torture scene, it just isn't an effective enough way to present such sensitive subject matter.
