6. Elysium Ripped Off Halo
It is no secret that filmmaker Neil Blomkamp desperately wanted to make a Halo movie, but the production of the film was excruciatingly slow. Fox Studios never really seemed to take the film seriously, so Blomkamp made a short to try and convince studio execs the venture should be fast tracked.
The execs hated the direction Blomkamp was taking the film, and the movie was eventually scrapped.
Neil has said many of the things he came up with during the pre-production of his ill-fated Halo movie then went into District 9. However, the plot of Halo and another Blomkamp movie, Elysium, have too much in common for it to be a coincidence.
See, Master Chief is born in Elysium City on planet Eridanus II. Master Chief is a technologically enhanced soldier who eventually goes on to fight on a halo-like structure surrounding a planet.
In Blomkamp’s 2013 film, Earth is surrounded by a halo-like structure. Matt Damon is a technologically enhanced soldier that eventually goes on to fight on said "halo".
It looks like Blomkamp got to make his Halo movie after all.
