Snowpiercer and Bioshock do not seem to have a lot in common beyond their dystopian genre. However, if you dig a little deeper, they are identical.

Both Bioshock and Snowpiercer share a colorful 1950s aesthetic bleached out in a depressing gray periodically interrupted by steampunk-inspired gears and cogs. It is not just set design these works have in common.

The antagonist of both Bioshock and Snowpiercer shape a new society sealed off from the rest of the world based on extreme political ideologies. The forced labor of children is also pivotal to both Bioshock and Snowpiercer. In Snowpiercer, it is revealed that underclass children are used to replace train parts, while in Bioshock children are used to harvest a drug. Speaking of drugs, both Bioshock and Snowpiercer feature enemies wielding blunt objects that are tripping balls.

All of this could be written off as “inspiration” if Snowpiercer and Bioshock did not also have the same third act climax. In both, it is revealed that the protagonist was being manipulated by someone he trusted into killing the dystopian leader, and the leader was in on it.

Bioshock and Snowpiercer's identical twists cannot be denied. Snowpiercer owes its existence to Bioshock.
