9 Oddly Terrible Levels In Otherwise Great Video Games

3. Devil May Cry 4 - Mission 19

Devil May Cry is no stranger to offbeat and straight up masochistic levels, but there is one that takes the trophy of the most unnecessary, annoying and plain evil level that wants you to die. For starters, DMC 4 is one of the best games of the series before reboot, and should be regarded as such. Even the PC port functions surprisingly well while looking mighty good. Likewise, the game is true to its roots, with difficult and varied enemies whose attacks and abilities should be remembered as soon as possible. And yes, this also applies to boss creatures, which will tear you into little pieces if you only give them a chance. Why is this all important? Well, because the second-to-final level of this game throws every single boss, enemy and combination of both at you. Spoiler Alert: When you enter, you will be faced by something that you'll probably find familiar from the earlier missions. It's a kind of a board game where you have to hit a given dice with your weapon. The number it falls on defines how many moves does your character moves. Depending on where it stops, something happens. It might be some orbs, it might be some enemies or it might be that damn flying bug thing that it took me three hours to kill. It's plain stupid. A hack 'n' slash adventure isn't supposed to be played with dice, and nobody deserved as much punishment as it is thrown at the player during that semi-final chapter of the game. While slightly easier than the real boss fights, it's a very non-transparent filler of an already long game.
