7. Getting Your License - Driver

On the one hand you've got an opening section that quite simply was so infuriating and impossibly hard, it crippled the Driver series in the eyes of the public so much that GTA easily swayed in and stole its crown. The flip-side though, was developer Reflections having the sheer balls to put forward a level that ensured only those who remained afterwards would take the rest of the experience seriously. You literally had to perfect your skills through sheer trial and error to progress and make the grade, mimicking every similar scene of a character testing themselves like you more commonly see on the big screen. There were no HUD elements, lines on the ground showing you were to go or how to perform, it was just you, a car, a parking lot... and a one minute time limit to pull it all off.
