9 Reasons This Console Generation Will Be Dominated By PC

9. Every New PC Is More Powerful Than Xbox One/PS4

One major disadvantage next gen consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have is that they€™re designed to be more powerful than what came before. Normally, that keeps them competitive with the most powerful PCs of whatever year they debut in. But because the Xbox 360 and PS3 hung around for 8 years, the new consoles are way less powerful than a PC you can buy at a department store, never mind a PC built for gaming. If you squint at the picture above, you can see the specs for a cheap desktop and two laptops. And in those specs, you€™ll see a few numbers followed by €œGHz€. That€™s the speed of the processor, which is fairly important when it comes to running games at a certain level of performance. Even the cheapest laptop, a Dell that€™s slower than all the other PCs, is slightly faster than both the Xbox One and PS4. But speed isn€™t the only thing that€™s important €“ you need certain parts to get good graphics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_Pnte_niJE These days, most computers come with a chip to handle graphics and while most of them are meant to handle video, they can also handle a bit of gaming. With laptops, a higher cost generally means more powerful parts are used, so you€™re more likely to find a good graphics chip in the $500+ range. But with desktops, as the video above shows at the three minute mark, all you have to do is buy a $150-$190 graphics card and you can get graphics better than both new consoles, with some restrictions on fancy effects. If you build a gaming PC yourself, the only limit is your wallet.
