9 Reasons This Console Generation Will Be Dominated By PC

2. Third-Party Games Galore

While the Wii U technically launched the new console generation, it quickly faded into irrelevance after about a year on the market. Why? There were barely any third-party games people cared about on the console. Third-party support, especially of big name franchises like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Elder Scrolls, and Grand Theft Auto, is now a box that has to be checked off before anyone even thinks of buying new consoles. If a console doesn€™t have the games everyone is going to be playing, it€™s not worth the money. PC has some of the most robust third-party support on the planet. Setting aside indies and PC only developers, almost all of the non-exclusive western console games are on PC, even if they take a while to get there and may not have controller support. Not only that, but retro gaming is alive and well on PC as well, thanks to emulators for old handhelds and consoles and backwards compatibility for PC€™s own back catalog. That said, there are weaknesses in the PC€™s catalog. If you€™re a fan of Japanese games, even mainstream ones like Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy, the catalog of Japanese PC games and ports is pretty small. Some major console genres, like fighting games, are also poorly represented. In both cases, these types of games are showing up on PC more often, but if they€™re a major part of your gaming diet, its limited pickings are something to keep in mind.
