9 Reasons The Division Is Ubisoft’s Best Video Game In Years

8. Innovative Take On Combining Single & Multiplayer

One of the first "Woah... okay, that was pretty cool" reactions you'll get comes from teaming up with either your friends or other agents, dynamically. I had a moment where I pulled up the city map, only to see a 'Friend' icon walking along the street, one block across. I promptly wandered over and interacted, and then we were off to start a mission together. It was seamless, and indicative of the sort of 'single-becomes-multiplayer' stuff Ubi touted with Watch_Dogs, or Sony did with PlayStation Home's initial batch of integrated games. In addition, whenever you come across a story mission, you'll see a floating marker denoting that you can tap a button and matchmake with other agents who've either already just begun, or who can then start with you. Again, it's something we've not seen before, and lets players who favour solo play dabble in the multiplayer component without worrying about forming a group in the long term. This way - and 'going solo' has been what I've been doing, for the most part - you're free to jump between the two, either entering as a group, leaving one after the mission is complete, or staying with your newfound team and tackling the next objective together.
