9 Reasons Why Automatron Will Make You Love Fallout 4 All Over Again
Fallout 4 meets Robot Wars, what more could you want?!
It's been a torturous wait, but the first DLC pack for Fallout 4 is finally here. However, ever since the announcement of what's actually going to be included in the season pass, this first expansion, Automatron, hasn't exactly been welcomed with open arms.
Expanding on the crafting aspects included in the base game (because that was everyone's favourite part of Fallout 4, right), taking place within the Boston Commonwealth and being cheaper than the upcoming Far Harbour, many fans were expecting this to be more of a stop-gap release until the "proper" expansions were finalised.
Fortunately for us though, Automatron is anything but filler. While its admittedly short story isn't quite as dense as some of Bethesda's previous DLC packages, it's one of the best smaller ones they've ever released. Packed with content and polished to perfection, the latest update for the game boasts plenty of new gear, enemies and locations to sink your teeth into. Better yet though, it made us remember why we fell in love with Fallout 4 in the first place.
Because for as great as the expansive title was when it released in November, it wasn't quite the home-run people were expecting. Streamlining some of the RPG features and including new elements that detracted for the core game, the title was a much more bloated experience than anything Bethesda had offered before.
Thankfully though, Automatron places the emphasis on what made Fallout great in the first place - and even makes the base game's most controversial features that little bit better.
9. There's A Dark Side-Story Ready To Be Discovered
Bethesda's latest DLC isn't just colourful robots punching each other in increasingly silly ways. While it does have that in spades, there's also a sinister side-story ready to be discovered if you explore every inch of the areas that the update has to offer.
And if you do a little exploring as you delve further and further into the depths of the expansion, it becomes clear that these robots weren't exactly created under the most humane of conditions.
Over a series of terminal entries and holotapes left behind by the former scientists working on the robot project, a sinister plot of kidnapping, deceit and harrowing gambles is exposed to have been lurking beneath the silly narrative the whole time. We won't spoil what actually went down in these underground labs to create the robots, but rest assured there's more to the story than what first meets the eye.
Fallout isn't a stranger to disturbing moments and stories, and Automatron acts as another brilliant addition to this darkly twisted universe.
