7. Detlaff’s Swarm Of Bats - The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt

There are plenty of tete-a-tetes in The Witcher 3 that will test your metal but one of the absolute trickiest is your face off with Detlaff.

Detlaff has two phases and the first you'll probably master, largely because you'll have to have so many goes at the second you'll have become an expert at his first iteration before you know it.

The real kicker in his second phase is his ‘swarm of bats’ attack. This attack where Detlaff transforms into a sea of attack bats cannot be dodged.

You can try to roll out of the way if you get the timing just right but chances are you won't.

Even with Quen active and ready to absorb a chunk of damage, this attack will decimate your energy. Your only choices here are to cast Aard to knock him out of the sky when he isn't made of bats and when he is made of bats then roll and run as far away as you can as quickly as you can. Given plenty of people have taken to the internet to call this fight f-ing impossible largely due to this frustratingly brutal and cheap attack, we're giving Detlaff his well-earned spot on this list.
