9 Single Player Games With Criminally-Underrated Multiplayer Modes

5. Resident Evil 5

The most arcady entry on this list, there's something so pure about Resident Evil 5's Mercenaries mode. Throwing away all of the self-serious fluff found in the main campaign, this cooperative multiplayer mode boils everything down to the satisfying head-popping gunplay at the core of this franchise and all of the suplexing-zombies nonsense that comes with it.

With no directive other than to get the highest score possible, Mercenaries offers a brilliant game of skill, style, and time management that manages to be way more engaging than the sum of its parts.

Especially with friends, the frantic dash to pop zombie skulls and increase the countdown timer while avoiding being brutally murdered is immense fun, always leaving you with that 'one more game' mentality that'll have you up until three in the morning beating your high score.

Plus, the amount of unlockable characters and weapon set-ups keep things interesting as you play through the same few maps for over and over again, but even without these additive features Mercenaries would still more than deserve its spot on this list.
