Once again criticised for intruding on a predominantly single-player experience, Bioware clearly made the effort to ensure that the game's wave-based co-op multiplayer was more than just a throwaway afterthought.

Tying the progression of these online matches to your resources and preparedness for the Reaper war in the single-player, Mass Effect 3's multiplayer always remained intrinsically tied to the main campaign, and it meant that you never felt guilty for sacking off the story to play this other mode because you were still contributing to Commander Shepard's war effort.

Plus the design of these multiplayer matches was solid in its own right, providing a team of players with a varied and challenging horde mode that lifted all the great powers and weapons that made the main campaign's gameplay so enjoyable in the first place.
