Metal Gear Online has always been a cult phenomenon. Adored by fans since its introduction in Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, this peculiarly successful multiplayer mode came into its own with the release of the fourth game and the full fleshing out of the competitive stealth gameplay

Encouraging players to sneak around the battlefield and get the drop on their enemies, MGO was a much more robust stealth experience than other releases that attempted to pull off something similar like Assassin's Creed, thanks in no small part to the focus on player expression that came to dominate this series' online mode.

Metal Gear is a weird beast, and this multiplayer experience retained the same wacky charm that made the main game such a memorable time in the first place. It's just a shame that Konami couldn't (or didn't want to) repeat their success by putting the same amount of effort into MGS V's version.
