9 Times Critics Ignored INCREDIBLE Video Games

8. Murdered: Soul Suspect

Square Enix

Square-Enix's 2014 attempt at making a detective game took the interrogation aspect out of LA Noire and made the investigations a little more cinematic and less...randomly picking up cigarette butts and twisting them around. Murdered: Soul Suspect puts you in the role of Ronan O'Conner, a Massachusetts detective with a heart of gold, but a criminal record. Thanks to marrying a cop's sister he's able to get his life straightened out.

Spoiler alert, he dies in the opening cut scene and you spend the rest of the game trying to solve his murder and figure out who the real villain is. Ronan is an interesting character, a mix of psychotic bravado and doting boyfriend, a veritable a white knight with a rebellious streak.

What makes it lose a lot of points was its stealth combat system - not because it was bad (though it was) but because it doesn't need to be there. If you can numb your mind to the terrible combat controls, there's a solid gem surrounding the whole thing.

Plus you get to possess cats and run around as them. In other games you can't even pet the cats, in this one you get to play as them!
