9 Times Critics Ignored INCREDIBLE Video Games

7. Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen

Okay, stupid story time - I got interested in Dark Souls and tried to pick up a copy. None in stock. Salesman sold me on Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen - said it's kind of like the same game, but without the undead part.

He ****ing lied to me, by the way - the games are nothing alike.

If you want soul-crushingly hard difficulty, then this is not the game for you. There is a difficulty curve (especially in the second half when they introduce Hellhounds) but you're never alone - you've got a partner in the form of your Pawn. You can also recruit another pair of pawns from around the game world to aid you as well.

It's basically an action RPG where you get to pretend you have faithful friends to accompany you. There are hours upon hours of gameplay here, a gigantic world map to explore, plenty of dragons, zombies, bandits, wolves and crazy cultists to fight. And the character creation is one of the richest I've ever seen. A solid medieval fantasy action RPG born from the guy who made Devil May Cry taking inspiration from Elder Scrolls and Fable.
