9 Times Video Games Made You Look Like An Idiot
3. Ghosts 'N Goblins - The Illusion
Ghosts 'n Goblins was developed by Capcom in 1985 - the original bad boy of viciously difficult platformers. Each level is limited by a timer, creating a panicked run and gun scenario with our fragile knight Arthur ploughing through waves of undead monstrosities to rescue a kidnapped princess. It’s a game where you’re literally fighting to keep your clothes on, as just one hit from an enemy strips you of all your armour and leaves Arthur fighting helplessly in just his boxers.
So we’ve established this game’s level of difficulty, then.
You slog your way through this giant trial of patience and sanity, only to find at the end of the game… that the entire thing was just a dream? An illusion, to be precise, a trap devised by Satan. To escape the real dungeon, you must play through the entire game from the beginning, at an even harder difficulty. A similar troll is deployed at the ‘end’ of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, where you are forced to replay the entire game, except upside-down. What cads.
