9 Tiny Issues That Ruined The Reputations Of Great Video Games

7. Max Payne Being Bald In A Hawaiian Shirt For Max Payne 3

From names to costume changes, and following the actually-kinda-cool idea of Rockstar taking the reigns on Max Payne from Remedy, they set about putting one of the worst foots forward in the history of gaming.

Keep in mind that the first two Max Payne games were stylish, personality-driven, loveable affairs both made by a studio that poured every ounce of themselves into every last pixel. They had such a definable identity, it was always going to be an uphill battle convincing us that anyone other than them would be a good thing, when it came to more sequels.

So what did Rockstar do, when following up on this hard-boiled noir detective with a personality everyone knew and loved? They lost his iconic coat, made him a few stone heavier, and clothed him in a bright Hawaiian shirt.

Meant to feed into a story about Max getting lost amongst the Brazilian favelas and viewing himself as a joke, even the mighty Rockstar couldn't pull this one back from the brink, as once again sales were catastrophic, putting the franchise on ice to this day.

The actual game itself though? Max Payne 3 is a phenomenal shooter that yes, barely feels like a continuation of the first two, but still has a venom-tongued script and some impactful, weighty gunplay.
