9 Tiny Issues That Ruined The Reputations Of Great Video Games
2. Mad Max Releasing On The Same Day As Metal Gear Solid V
How to kill a damn good game in one fell swoop? Release it on a day where everybody and their granny is only buying something else.
Such was the case with Mad Max, slowly emerging into the sunlight many months after the movie had wowed audiences, hoping to make an impact thanks to being developed by Just Cause's Avalanche Studio, and the fact that, well, it was an open-world Mad Max game.
Sadly, whoever sorted this date out didn't realise that the mighty Metal Gear Solid V was also dropping on September 1st, which being the final instalment in the franchise and something that had demoed perfectly in the run-up to launch, completely destroyed it in comparative sales.
MGS V was just a much better sell, with Mad Max having shown off none of its desolate charm, gorgeous graphics, meaty combat or weighty vehicle-bashing beforehand. As you can hopefully tell, it's well worth a punt, being an underdog shout for one of 2015's most overlooked gems.
