9 (Unconventional) First-Person Video Games You Must Play
4. Evolve
Turtle Rock Studios, the makers of Left 4 Dead, just can't seem to get away from co-op shooters with asymmetrical multiplayer, and why would they when they're leading the evolution. The set-up for Evolve is simple - future people are colonizing on faraway planets, and as they overtake others and pollute them, they must expand and find more planets. Four players will suit up as planet-tamers, primarily facing a single, playable alien monster intent on stopping mankind from spreading any further throughout the universe. If you take Turtle Rock's zombie classics, add a dash more of Halo's Juggernaut mode and then borrow some class-system sentiments from games like Team Fortress, you're starting to understand what Evolve is all about - working together. Tracking and trapping, squad healing, heavy artillery and additional support are only as effective as their weakest link, so you'll need everyone firing on all cylinders if you want to stomp on Darwin's dreams. Most of the critters you'll find are passive, useful as evolution fuel and shotgun fodder, but a few native beasts are so massive, you might confuse them for the Goliath himself... unless you are him. If you are the Goliath, you'll barrel around like King Kong, bashing and gorging and stamping your feet. As you Evolve, your skin will harden, you'll breathe fire and you'll smash harder than The Hulk. The inimitable beauty of a Turtle Rock game is its replayability, and if you ask us, Evolve looks like it could be the next big link in the genetic code of online multiplayer.
Real Science Magazine called James' addiction to video games "sexually attractive." He also worked really hard and got really lucky in college and earned some awards for acting, improv and stand-up, but nobody cares about that out here in LA. So... He's starting over fresh, performing when He can. His profile picture features James as Serbian, vampire comic Dorde Mehailo with His anonymous Brother and Uncle at the Nerdmelt Showroom in West Hollywood. In James' spare time, he engages in acting, writing, athletics, hydration, hours of great pondering and generally wishing you'd like him.
