9 Upcoming Video Games You Need To Be Worried About

If there is a studio which could be said to have ‘won’ gaming over the last decade, it’s Rockstar. Since its creation as definitively the most controversial video game franchise ever in 1999, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto was nothing short of a colossal success for the company for many many years. That level of success must seem like absolute pittance however, since the release of the absolutely earth shattering GTA V way back in 2013.

Undoubtedly the most expansive outing to date, people are still finding new things to do and see in Rockstar’s fully realised open world to this day, as every single location, story, mission and NPC adds its own personal touch of flare and character to the colossal whole. Adding to the eye watering replayability of the experience though was the introduction of MMO elements with GTA Online, allowing this world to constantly evolve ever further as players scratched their criminal itches in this online sandbox of utter chaos.

With such monumental and continued success, including ports on three different console generations, many have wondered whether a sixth instalment in the franchise is even necessary, and what exactly Rockstar’s incentive is to follow up a game that has been so rapturously received and wildly profitable. Nevertheless, rumours and leaks do indicate that GTA VI is indeed in development, even if Rockstar themselves are not the ones to admit it. Details are sketchy and changeable at best, without a trailer, release date or even firm ideas of storyline, timeframe or location, so we have to wonder if anything even exists to worry about.

However, from the latest leak coming to us in October 2021, it seems that the development of GTA VI is indeed underway, although many on the team may not wish that it was. Reports indicate that the game may be entering a sort of ‘Development Hell’ as story and game elements have changed multiple times as far back as 2019, and that we are already a year behind the initial planned announcement.

With sources saying that VI may be ‘the most chaotic project Rockstar have ever developed’ and the looming shadow of its predecessor, it’s a title that the whole community is watching with a tentative sense of dread.
