9 Video Game DLCs That Ruined Perfect Endings
6. Fallout 3 - Broken Steel
We’ll admit the ending to Fallout 3 is pretty divisive, but as with everything one man’s flawed is another’s perfect.
There are a number of different endings in Fallout 3 depending on your actions. The best ending has you go into the chamber to save the purifier thereby rescuing humanity but dooming yourself. You can also elect to have one of your companions go into the chamber instead and depending on said companion they’ll die horribly or survive depending on whether they can withstand radiation.
There’s a lot more meat to it, but you get the gist. You’re a big hero, you save the day and things wrap up most likely with your death.
Then there’s Broken Steel which was a wonderful reprieve for those who felt ripped off by Fallout 3’s ending but an odd addition for those who enjoyed it. The DLC picks up right where the original leaves off with a story revolving around you joining the Brotherhood of Steel with a mind to wipe out what’s left of the Enclave. There is something to appreciate about getting to see Project Purity’s completion and life returning to the Wasteland, but it’s hard to feel like the narrative weight of Fallout 3’s finale isn’t undermined by its addition.
