The Great King of Evil, Gannondorf, is the penultimate boss of Ocarina of Time. He is the final boss of Inside Ganon’s Castle, which is the final dungeon.

Gannondorf is defeated by weakening him by reflecting his own energy blasts back at him using your sword (or an empty bottle, if you like a bit of flair). The two of you will engage in the most heated league of Hyrule Tennis imaginable, sometimes batting the glowing ball of lightning back and forth dozens of times before one of you will miss and get stunned.

This mechanic has featured in so many Zelda games that it has even been given its own name. “Dead Man’s Volley” was christened as so in The Phantom Hourglass, when a boss called the Diabolical Cubus Sisters challenge Link to a game of Dead Man’s Volley.

This mechanic first appeared in A Link to the Past in the first encounter with Agahnim, and has been used in countless main Zelda titles through the years, even appearing in the spin-off Hyrule Warriors.

Additionally, it is worth noting, that almost all bosses in the Legend of Zelda series are defeated by the weapons and items hidden inside their own dungeons. It’s all very convenient, isn’t it?
