The Theory

There's always a bit of an obsession among gaming fans to find the origin of characters, particularly when there's an element of mystery behind them. For instance, why would a world as colourful and cheerful as the one the Super Mario Bros inhabit be positively chocked-full of ghosts?

There must be some sort of major trauma in that world's past, surely? Well, according to one theory, the ghosts - or Boos to give them their real name - are actually "born" when Bob-ombs explode. Which would fit, since the little bomb guys have faces and legs and apparenrtly souls in some opinions.
