9 Video Game Hard Modes That Were WAY Too Easy

The Doom franchise has always prided itself on its particular brand of sci-fi horror, and, to its credit, it has always delivered more or less what it says on the box.

Stuck on a research facility on Mars after scientists have opened a literal portal to Hell, the player must fight through the hordes of monsters pouring through in order to survive.

Suspenseful, sure. Horrifying? You betcha. But difficult? Not really.

Doom 3 boasts 4 difficulty settings: Recruit, Marine, Veteran and Nightmare. With damage scaled up in each mode, it seems on paper as though the game should be impossibly hard on Nightmare mode.

It's difficult at certain points throughout the game, although ultimately, cutting through the hell-spawn is rarely taxing for any players with a modicum of FPS experience. When you're constantly armed to the teeth, it's not too hard to send the monstrous hordes straight back where they came from.

If the mode had simply been named "Hard", it may not have made this list, but mislabelling something as a "Nightmare" really doesn't count as making it more difficult.
