9 Video Games Heroes Who Completely Failed At Their Quest
4. Ellis - Blair Witch
Okay, so there is a way to finish Blair Witch with player character, Ellis, coming out the other end relatively unscathed and with his quest complete, but there's a good chance most players won't experience that the first time around.
That's because the adaptation tricks players into pursuing the bad ending, under the guise of the titular Witch manipulating Ellis into doing her bidding. Nothing makes sense in the world of Blair Witch, and the player's own distrust of what they're seeing is used against them. For instance, all the way through you're encouraged to smash creepy idols that scare off your dog, but the finale reveals that doing this actually gave the Witch more power and influence.
This, combined with a few other manipulated choices, results in you completely undermining your own quest, messing it up before you even really knew what it was. You thought you were fighting against her, but really she had you wrapped around her finger, and this ending sees you become a murderous pawn for other unsuspecting people stumbling into the woods.
