9 Video Games Ruined By Ridiculously Last Minute Changes
7. Scrapping The Campaign - Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4
Though there were plenty of different reasons why Black Ops 4 became the unwanted runt of the Black Ops litter (including terrible post-release microtransactions), the writing was on the wall ever since it was revealed to not have a single-player campaign.
Though campaign players only make up a small percentage of Call of Duty fans, it's been a franchise staple for decades, and with it being replaced by a battle royale mode, the current fad of the time, many players thought Activision were simply trying to cash in a trend.
And, actually, that's not entirely inacurrate. According to QA testers, a campaign was in development and the original plan long before battle royale was even an idea. Apparently the planned story mode was to feature a multiplayer element, with two teams of two playing through story missions competitively.
However, in mid-2017, this mode was apparently scrapped when the developers couldn't get it to work, and battle royale was switched in as the replacement. Single-player wouldn't have saved the game, but it would have made the sequel feel less soulless.
