One of the most prolific apps in the history of mobile gaming, Clash of Clans completely reframed the way companies look at digital revenue streams.
You can 'thank' the likes of Farmville for, ahem, planting the seed, but it was Clash of Clans that had far greater reach than being a browser-embedded game. As such, Supercell employed a quick - and optional - microtransaction model behind its various gems, resources and meter-burns, meaning if you want to expedite the process behind base-building or amassing a larger array of assets for the next attack, well, why not drop a note or two?
