The Banner Saga is a turn-based tactical RPG, that puts you in charge of a band of warriors and civilians. In it, you have to make a series of Oregon Trail type decisions for the group that you lead.

Do you help that shifty looking fellow you meet on the road, or steal his food and run off? Every choice is important as food levels, morale, and lives, are at stake.

Your decisions in The Banner Saga form the emotional crux of the whole game. Every choice might be made based on your own morality, or lack thereof, but you can never foresee some of the unexpected outcomes that come after you've made them.

You see, The Banner Saga has a sadistic Game of Thrones style willingness to kill off characters without even batting an eyelid. Within seconds of making a certain decision, you might be casually informed that your choice has resulted in the death of one of your favourite team members. And it's this matter-of-fact approach to fatalities of main characters, that makes The Banner Saga such an unforgiving, emotional brute of a game.
