Above all other monetary or performance-based follies committed by the gaming industry today, the absolute worst of the worst is the recent introduction of overstated or misleading game demonstrations at worldwide conferences. One needs only to consider the debacle that surrounded the preamble and eventual release of Watch Dogs to understand just how badly this type of thing can be handled. Developers are using specifically crafted segments of their games that demonstrate superior performance than what will actually be produced by the finished game. It's misleading, dishonest and - ultimately - a completely unfair way to market a new game. Players that become enchanted or intrigued by what they have seen on the big screen have no defence agains the blatant lies being shown to them, save perhaps for the trained cynicism we may be gaining thanks to suffering through this more than once. In a time where games are able to look and perform to near-remarkable levels thanks to next generation technology, there should simply be no need for developers to feed us bare-faced lies about what their game will eventually offer... Do you feel respected as a consumer by the industry right now? Let us know in the comments!
