9 Ways The Gaming Industry Is Currently Trolling All Of Us

2. Microtransactions - Pay To Play

Made more and more prominent with the growth of 'freemium' games - mostly on mobile or tablet devices - is the inclusion of resource purchases that demand the use of actual real-life money to proceed. Whereas games have previously tended to make resources available through painstaking collection and earnest play, now they expect us to pay for them! Monetary transactions within games aren't necessarily the world's greatest evil; so long as the content on offer isn't essential for growth or progression within the game. Where it becomes something like a material, equipment piece or resource, however, that's when things get more than a little silly. Once again this is an aspect of taking away fair reward for hard work. The players who get the best results or rewards aren't always those who have worked to obtain them, but most commonly fall to those with the impatience and wallet to simply buy them. It's worse than ever when it affects the performance of players in online play, of course!
