After Skyrim: 10 Awesome Predictions for the Future of the Elder Scrolls Series

1. Greater Weapon Design Customisation

I love Skyrim€™s Blacksmithing system just like I€™ve loved every Blacksmithing system on any game I€™ve ever played that features one. I€™m typically a Swordplay kind of guy should I have that option in-game, and so it€™s perhaps expected that I€™d choose BS€™ing as my preferred avenue of income and gear. In Skyrim, weapons are pretty customisable. You can create a wide range, from various metals and ores found around the map; you can also upgrade them using your Blacksmithing skill; you can even add various magical properties to the equipment through your Enchanting skill. It€™s a pretty great system, truth be told. However, you cannot change or alter in any way the look of your weaponry. You can create an Ebony sword and it looks like exactly that; like every other Ebony sword you€™ll find in game. Sure it can boast different properties, but you can€™t change what it ultimately is €“ an Ebony sword. My prediction (or maybe it€™s wishful thinking) is thus: we€™ll have access to a further menu in the Blacksmithing skill which allows us to design the look of the weapons we create (perhaps this will even be an upgradeable perk; the more we level it, the more customisation options we have access to). This way, we can create mean looking equipment, the kind we might find in a Daedric tomb or on the corpse of a particularly tough boss; the kind that looks completely badass, but would normally pail statistically in comparison to the fairly standard looking weaponry we€™ve made and enchanted ourselves. This way, when we make an Ebony Sword, it€™ll still technically be an Ebony sword, but to look at it, you€™d think it was a bespoke item looted from a particularly deadly dungeon. Imagine this in conjunction with a co-op gameplay system; imagine a place where we can upload our creations online for others to see, for others to potentially download in return for in-game gold. Elder Scrolls, but with a working economy? Sounds completely awesome to me! So there are ten potential predictions for the fate of the Elder Scrolls franchise. Anything you€™d particularly like to see in the future of the franchise? Let€™s all have a jolly good chat about it! You know where the comments are.
