Aliens: Fireteam Elite Review

Left 4... Aliens?

Aliens: Fireteam Elite
Cold Iron Studios

The biggest question out the gate - given the history of Aliens games - is:

Is it broken?

Thankfully no, nothing went wrong once in the time spent playing this for review. Technically anyway, the game never crashed, it functioned as well as could be desired and is actually sort of fun.

This is very much a Left 4 Dead-like, but with waves upon waves of Xenomorph to put down instead of zombies. It feels like the people at Cold Iron Studios planned it to turn out this way, albeit with three playable characters instead of four. The comparisons come right down to there being special Xenomorphs just like there was in special Infected in Left 4 Dead, and now soon to be in Back 4 Blood.

The Special Xenomorph enemies even serve very similar functions, if anyone has played Left 4 Dead in the past and wants more of that, but in a space setting, this might be for you. Prowlers function pretty much like Hunters, they stick to cover and wait to pounce, pinning the player down, Spitters do practically what you might think and there are even Tank-like classes too.

With the Warrior and the even stronger Praetorian Xenomorphs that really force a team to work together to survive, without teamwork, this one would and does fall apart.
