1. Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 was the first time people have been excited for a game in this series since the novelty of seeing Mario and Sonic wore off after the first title.
Maybe it was because Mario and Sonic were competing on home turf. Maybe it was because the game was on the Nintendo Switch which this kind of title works perfectly on. Or maybe it was because the game features a full campaign mode where 8-bit versions of Mario and friends compete against 16-bit versions of Sonic and his pals.
It's honestly surreal seeing the clash of sprites in something that isn't an unfunny 2010 YouTube short.
The retro sports found in the campaign are simple yet a lot of fun and help distinguish this from the wealth of other entries in the franchise. The campaign also has events that aren't related to the Olympics which are honestly the best part. Where else could you control an 8-bit Mario as he sneaks into a museum without getting caught by patrolling Goombas?
Besides this, the game also has 21 events. The only big negative of this is the lack of many Dream Events, only having three of them.
