Anthem: 10 Major Fixes It Desperately Needs
10. Ditch The AWFUL Tethering System
In its finest moments, Anthem is all about the thrill of flying around a wide-open world with a team, tracking down alien monsters and blowing them to hell.
Except the game actively works against players' attempts to have fun in a number of ways, and none proves more irritating than its infuriating online tethering system.
If you're on manoeuvres with a squad, lagging behind the team leader will result in the appearance of a large, weirdly aggressive text box, informing you you'll be teleported to your team if you don't maintain formation.
Given that the game world is littered with collectable nonsense and "random" happenings such as world events, it's extremely odd for the game to tug players along in such a seemingly unnecessary fashion.
Additionally, given that a) the teleport requires a loading screen and b) PC players are playing on a variety of hardware with different loading times, it seems extremely short-sighted to give players such little free rein.
It is quite probable that there's an under-the-hood reason for this, but that's not really good enough given that MMORPGs have allowed players to venture off the beaten path while keeping within teams for literally decades.
