Anthem: 9 Things It Must Learn From Mass Effect Andromeda
5. An Unlockable, Rewarding Skill Tree
Back to combat and character, as where Andromeda was concerned once you'd picked three powers you liked the feel of, playing for 30 minutes or 30 hours was the exact same experience. Yes, you'd unlock the ability to chain a couple of energy blasts together or do/take more damage, but nothing that fundamentally made you look at your character at the end of the game and remark on how far you'd come.
That all needs to change, as with the advent of the Javelin armour, it feels as though you'll be able to mod or craft a ton of augments for your respective exo-suit. The E3 demo's most OTT moment came from launching a volley of homing rockets at a pack of foes, but we need more tangible, game-altering unlocks like movement enhancements, all new combat mechanics and fancier ways to use that sweet jetpack.
If we get more than a few hours into Anthem and we're playing the same way over and over - with no perks on the horizon showing any sign of promise - that's a major problem, and one Bioware can get ahead of by showing off some more innovative gameplay.
