Thanks to 2017's Assassin's Creed: Origins, Ubisoft's long-running franchise bounced back into the gaming world in a big way. Taking some time off and refining the mechanics and features which made the games so beloved in the first place, since that release it's clear the developers have been eager to capitalise on the renewed interest - and renewed confidence - fans currently have in the series.

Opting to not return to the annualised format that drove prior games into the ground, Ubi have been coy about when players would see the next sequel in action. At least they were, until the project was leaked and they were forced to announce Assassin's Creed: Odyssey to the world ahead of its impending E3 reveal.

Begrudgingly confirming that, yes, the game is real, the devs showed a very brief clip of gameplay but revealed little else, opting to not spoil too much of their upcoming blowout. Still, that hasn't stopped a couple of sites reporting on information that they've dug up themselves, all of which point towards Odyssey being a huge departure for the iconic series.
