Assassin’s Creed: 5 Must-Plays & 5 That Suck
2. Sucks: Liberation
Having the honour of the first female protagonist, one of colour no less, is genuinely fantastic. Having a wonderful New Orleans to explore is as equally fantastic.
However, Liberation is without question the most forgettable outing in the AC franchise.
Irrespective of the limitations to the Vita, the game offers little to explore, a linear and uninteresting narrative and bugs that frustrate even the most dedicated of players.
Unprecedented gaps in the story leave players feeling as if they have missed key developmental plot points, or have been left wanting more.
Players are never allowed access to Aveline's past, and aren't afforded the chance to explore how she became the person she is. The daughter of a freed slave born into the Brotherhood sounds fantastic, but you never have this fascinating tale fleshed out.
Despite HD remasters, this game still comes up lacking.
There are aspects worthy of attention - the ability to switch between personas of Slave, Assassin and Lady to blend with different crowds for example - but it doesn't perform well enough to make this engaging.
You can avoid Liberation in the knowledge that going through the pain to play it won't leave you missing out on anything of import.
