Assassin's Creed: 10 Most Shocking & Heartbreaking Moments

5. Bayek And Aya Call It A Day (AC Origins)

Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Through AC Origins, we fall in love with married couple Bayek and Aya as they attempt to rekindle their relationship following the death of their young son Khemu.

Their relationship is a tragic one in the main, as they become conflicted through the course of the game between their love for one another and their duty to Egypt as Medjays. It doesn't help either that they continue to be manipulated by the political forces of the country they wish to save, namely Cleopatra, who is prepared to use their unique skills when required, but also tosses them aside once an opportunity for a stronger alliance comes along.

And so, although not particularly surprising, it is sadly Aya in the end who decides that the greater good must come before her own union with Bayek. This leads to the tragically sad but inevitable moment, as the pair sit on the edge of the Great Green Sea and decide to birth the future Assassin brotherhood, knowing it will take them on separate paths.

It's beautiful in many ways and adds a whole new level of depth to the ethos of the creed, now knowing it originated from the pained romance of two grieving parents who wanted to leave a legacy in memory of their son.
