Assassin's Creed: 10 Most Shocking & Heartbreaking Moments

4. Phoibe's Death (AC Odyssey)

Poor, poor Phoibe.

Despite Odyssey being a role-playing game, the death of the Misthios' young Kephalonian friend is one of the fixed points of the game which must happen in order to send either Alexios or Kassandra off on the next stage of their quest.

But in typical form for a Greek tragedy, it is horrific. We all knew Phoibe was reckless, arguably in part due to the actions of the Misthios and the young girl's desire to live up to her heroic friend, but what we didn't know is that she would be killed off in such a brutal fashion. Kidnapped by cult members, the Misthios finds themselves in a race against time to save their friend, with no happy outcome.

Arguably, there has been no better voice acting in the series than that of the Misthios seeing that young girl's body lying covered in blood in an Attika temple, with both Melissanthi Mahut and Michael Antonakos giving the performances of the game at their pained reactions to the death of their friend.

While Odyssey presents Ancient Greece in all of its vibrant and stunning beauty, this moment serves as a harsh reminder of how dark that world could actually be.
