Assassin's Creed: 10 Times The Templars Were Right
8. Ben Hornigold's Nassau Assessment - Assassin's Creed Black Flag
Betraying the undeniably loveable Edward Kenway is not the best way of convincing anyone that you're a man in the right of things, but Ben Hornigold probably had more going for his rationale than most others in Assassin's Creed Black Flag.
One of the founding fathers of the free and equal city of Nassau, Hornigold's attitude actually remains fairly consistent throughout the entire game. His loathing of the imperialist empires and their oppressive regimes matched the Templars perfectly, and he found himself being driven into their arms after a visit by Woodes Rodgers.
His final standoff with Edward is where Hornigold really lets his mentality be known. Hornigold points out that they had all been living as free men on their supposed utopia of Nassau for years and asked where it had gotten any of them.
At that point in the story, it's a pretty damning thing for Edward to think about.
The Assassins had been on the verge of collapse for pretty much the entirety of the game, all of Edward's friends were either dead or growing sick of the sight of him, and his free, selfish thinking had left him with no legacy and no real identity.
