Assassin's Creed: Syndicate - 10 Ways It Already Made The Series Great Again

2. The Jack The Ripper DLC

Assassin's Creed Syndicate
Ubisoft

The Jack the Ripper pack for Assassin's Creed: Syndicate represents everything DLC should be. Rather than feeling like something that could of been could have been included in the main game that Ubisoft chopped off and sold separately to make a quick buck, it feels different, like something that is truly extra.

It introduced new gameplay mechanics and tools that didn't really mesh well with the base game, and could have made it feel more than a little oversaturated. However, in the small dose of this expansion, and in the context of its story, they worked perfectly.

Moreover, an entire chunk of the map was overhauled for this story. You are able to explore Whitechapel and the City of London in 1888 during the autumn of terror, twenty years after the main game takes place. The chaos and unrest is apparent from the beginning, and creates a very distinct feel in comparison to what you had previously experienced with Syndicate.

Throughout most of the game, you play as an older and wiser Evie Frye, who is in pursuit of notorious serial killer, Jack the Ripper, after Jacob was unsuccessful in capturing the maniac and went missing. She has an all-new set of skills at her disposal, and they are used to their full potential. There are also certain missions where you play as the infamous Jack himself. These missions have their own atmosphere and are tremendously unsettling.

This expansion is also ripe with the historical fiction that makes Assassin's Creed so enjoyable. Without spoiling too much, they definitely took a page out of the whole Black Dahlia story arc from L.A. Noire, seamlessly weaving the fiction and reality together. As opposed to the triumphant ending of the main game, the conclusion of the Jack the Ripper story is far more bitter than it is sweet, and definitely worth experiencing for yourself.
