7. Lose The Melee Combat
When was the last time you actively enjoyed the close-quarters combat in an Assassin's Creed game? Like, on the level of something like Batman: Arkham, Sleeping Dogs or Shadow of Mordor? Starting out as a necessity (and assumedly a punishment) for being spotted, AC III then made Connor a button-mashing killing machine, capable of wiping out entire platoons of enemies whilst using the occasional one as a bullet-shield for distanced combat. One of the developers at the time even said the soldiers "Really didn't stand a chance", leading to many fans to posit the question "Well, what's the challenge then?" At no point was Assassin's Creed supposed to be a power fantasy, that sort of thing is reserved for the likes of God of War or Prototype. Surely the appeal of being a hidden-bladed assassin is to forever have the odds stacked against you, knowing if push comes to shove you can defend yourself, but to have the focus of gameplay be on avoiding discovery? As such, Ubisoft would do wonders to remove the melee combat system from the game altogether, instead focussing either on letting you deploy a gadget to get away (like the new grapple hook or a smoke bomb), or a one-time attack that flaws an opponent but can't be used too frequently. If there was some consequence to being spotted, perhaps we'd try harder to stay hidden, and as such it would change up the flow of the game for the better. Which brings me on to...
